Four useful decision points
| Question | Repair may fit | Consider replacement |
|---|---|---|
| How widespread is the damage? | A specific failed part, with sound surrounding components | Several damaged sections or extensive system problems |
| Are matching parts available? | Compatible components can be identified | Critical parts are unavailable or a panel cannot be matched |
| Does the door meet your needs? | Style, operation and configuration still suit the property | You need a different configuration or a substantial appearance change |
| What does the full quote cover? | Clear diagnosis and defined repair warranty | Repair cost is close to a complete, suitable replacement quote |
Avoid a decision based on one number.
Ask for both scopes when replacement is suggested. A lower initial repair cost may be attractive, but it is only useful if the remaining door is serviceable. Equally, replacing a working door just because the opener fails may not be necessary.
Record the parts, labor, exclusions and warranty side by side in the budget worksheet.
